You may notice my therapy dog during sessions. Her gentle, nonjudgmental presence often helps clients feel more relaxed and safe in the counseling space. For many people, having a therapy dog nearby can make it easier to open up, regulate emotions, and feel supported during the therapeutic process.

Psychotherapeutic Approaches

- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): helps people understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. In sessions, clients learn to identify unhelpful thought patterns—such as catastrophizing, self-criticism, or black-and-white thinking—and replace them with more balanced perspectives.
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): focuses on helping people manage intense emotions and improve relationships. It combines acceptance and change—learning to accept feelings while also developing healthier ways to respond to them.
- Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR): is a therapy designed to help people process and heal from traumatic or distressing memories. During sessions, the therapist guides the client through recalling aspects of difficult experiences while using bilateral stimulation
- Internal Family Systems (IFS): views the mind as made up of different “parts,” such as the inner critic, protector, or wounded child. These parts develop to help us cope with life experiences. IFS helps people understand conficting emotions, encourages compassion and reduces self-criticism while healing wounds or vulnerable parts.

- Trauma Focused - CBT (TF-CBT): helps clients understand how traumatic experiences can affect thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Trauma can sometimes lead to feelings of fear, guilt, shame, or ongoing anxiety. TF-CBT provides tools to help clients make sense of those reactions and gradually regain a sense of safety and control.
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): focuses on helping people accept difficult thoughts and feeling while committing to actions aligned with their values. It helps teach people to stop struggling with unwanted thoughts and builds psychological flexibility.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP): is a specialized form of CBT and the gold-standard treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
